Community is a very important word at Stitch at the Old Mill. We are excited about our home community, Whitefield, NH, of course. Whitefield is the last town to be granted under the English provincial government, two years before the Declaration of Independence was signed! Our village is surrounded by natural beauty, situated as it is between the White Mountains and the Great North Woods. Stitch at the Old Mill is located on one of Whitefield's most scenic and historic sites between John's River and the Common with its picturesque bandstand. Ask us and we'll be glad to tell you its story.
We also like the community of friends found here in our shop. Remember the Cheers theme song? "Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came." That is the type of atmosphere we try to foster at Stitch. Come in and introduce yourself - we'll be glad you came, and we hope you will be, too.
We also want to be part of a larger community that cares for others. In November 2008 we sponsored an apron workshop and gave 24 aprons to our local hospice organization to share with hospice caregivers and volunteers. In 2009 we made three quilts to decorate the first Habitat for Humanity home in northern New Hampshire. We hope to do many other projects together in the years ahead.
Of course as quilters, we like feeling we are participating in the quilting bee tradition of community, sitting together, laughing, talking, and celebrating life's milestones with gifts stitched with love.
Stitch at the Old Mill opened June 4, 2008. We share the Old Mill building with a gallery featuring the work of local artists, and the Artisan's Classroom, where on any given day we might hold Art Play for preschoolers, a basket making workshop or a beginning quiltmaking class. With the sight and sound of John's River right outside the window, it's a great place to work and play.
Beth Anderson of Whitefield, NH, is the proprietor of Stitch at the Old Mill. She gets by with lots of help from her friends and family. Can you believe there's a quilt shop in Whitefield, NH?
